As we write this column, there was only a week to go before the referendum was held on Thursday, June 23, 2016, on whether Britain (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) should remain or leave the European Union (EU). The vote was held in response to increasing calls from the Conservative MPs of Prime Minister David Cameron's ruling party, and another right wing party, the UK Independence Party (UKIP). At this stage, of writing it was too close to call, with older retired voters favoring leave and younger working voters opting to remain.
