How to Rebuild Workover Masts

Per API RP 4G (4th Ed., April 2012) an operating mast should be totally rebuilt every 10 years, or every 3,650 operating days. This rebuild includes removing the mast from the carrier, disassembling it, removing paint and scale to the extent necessary, and rebuilding the mast per the manufacturer's original specifications. This includes all required structural repairs. 4G includes instruction as to the minimum qualifications required for the individual in charge of the inspection, the welders performing the work, and the inspectors who check the quality of the welds. RP 4G Table 2 also gives suggested rejection criteria for repair items. All these are suggested as minimum only. API documents are not intended to be "how-to" manuals, but overall general guidelines and requirements.
