Deletion analysis of four of eighteen late gene expression factor gene homologues of the baculovirus, BmNPV.

Amino acid sequence identity of Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus genome with the lef gene of Autographa californica NPV is described. Of 18 lef homologues identified, deletion analysis indicated that 14 were probably essential for viral replication in cell culture. The products of 3 other homologues were probably involved in stimulation of DNA replication. Further elucidation of the roles of the gene products was obtained.
