How have the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust grants supported the development of research capacity?

The majority of pharmacist researchers work in academic environments, not practice. For those pharmacists not currently 'research-active' who do want to become researchers, there are not only limited opportunities for funding, but also time constraints and limited awareness of how to obtain funding or otherwise get started on the path towards their goal. In the UK, we are fortunate that the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust (PPRT), an independent charity, supports and promotes the professional practice and development of pharmacists (www.pprt.org.uk). Each year, the Trust makes two practice research awards available to pharmacists who are members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB). These are the Galen Award(s) which offer up to ?.000 funded by the bequest of Rowland Henry Williams and the Sir Hugh Linstead Fellowship(s) which offer up to ? 000 funded by a grant from the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust. The conditions of the latter award stipulate that it must support research relating to community pharmacy. In comparison to other sources of funding open to health researchers, these awards
