Adenocarcinomas commonly show extracellular mucin deposits, which, e.g., in breast cancer, may undergo secondary degenerative changes such as calcification. Psammoma bodies representing lamellated calcifications are a common morphologic feature of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, serous adenocarcinoma of the ovary, and meningiomas.
