Living donor kidney transplantation has grown in importance over the past decade. Critical to this advance is lapa-roscopic harvest of the donor kidney, which compared with the open surgical approach, has enormously improved the kidney donation experience by reducing donor morbidity. However, to exploit the advantage of laparoscopic surgery over open nephrectomy, precise delineation of renal vascular, parenchyma, and collecting system anatomy is essential. This past decade has witnessed advances in noninvasive imaging techniques, including computed tomographic angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), which has created an on-going dilemma as to which to use for pre-laparoscopic kidney harvesting to replace digital subtraction angiography.
