Volvo Bus India plans to increase production by 25%

Bangalore - New orders for Volvo Bus India Pvt Ltd of more than 150 inter-city buses from major State Road Transport Corporations, coupled with its current order book and growing demand for modern city buses, is justification for increasing bus production capacity at its facilities in Bangalore by 25%, the company announced last month. In addition to the new orders for inter-city order contracts, Volvo Bus is looking to benefit from the JNNURM order for 15,000 city buses, of which some 20% is expected to be low floor units - see separate article in this issue on page 4. Volvo is optimistic of securing a small percentage of this order and between 1% and 2% would generate further business of up to 300 new city buses. Akash Passey, managing director, Volvo Buses India indicated that with this volume of the JNNURM contract it would allow Volvo to gain entry into between eight and ten cities across India thus broadening its client base for future bus sales across India.
