Germany/Japan - Daimler Trucks of Stuttgart, has announced the development of the new generation Fuso Canter, which features a new drive train (engine and gearbox), new payloads and four cab variants. A four-cylinder, 3.0-litre diesel engine replaces the previous two engines - the 3-litre and 4.9-litre - and is used across the entire new Fuso Canter range from 3.5t to 7.5t gross vehicle weight. It features a bore and stroke of 95.8mm and 104mm, overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and common-rail injection. Daimler states that Mitsubishi Fuso engineers have adapted the engines and the auxiliary components such as clutch, engine brake and cooling to the high requirements pertaining to a light-duty truck. An engine brake is fitted as standard. The engine is offered in three power ratings and meets Euro 5 using EGR technology and a diesel particulate filter. The power and torque ratings follow:
