Sweden - Volvo Bus, which has sold nearly 1,200 Volvo 7900 Hybrid buses since 2010 in 21 countries said it was now taking the next step towards electrification and that since May three plug-in Hybrid 7900 buses had been undergoing field tests in Gothenburg. The plug-in Hybrid 7900 bus, which is based on the same tested technology as the Volvo 7900 hybrid bus, is seen by Hakan Karlsson, executive vice president, business areas Volvo group, as the dominant vehicle in its hybrid range for the inner city and that the ordinary hybrid would be the vehicle for the suburban routes in and out of the city. Karlsson added that demand for the plug-in hybrid buses would come from all the cities around the world.
