摘要

Over the course of a year, three vehicle dynamics engineers based at Centro Ricerche Fiat in Turin, Italy, have developed a real-time friction estimation procedure based on signals transmitted from standard onboard sensors located within a vehicle's stability control system. The procedure is at prototype stage, but has been tested in real-world conditions. As well as detecting low friction levels as soon as possible, the procedure promises to enhance driving dynamics, especially when there is a sudden surface change in a curve, or during a double lane-change on a split-μ surface.
