Investigating Friction Factor in Forging of Ti-6Al-4V through Isothermal Ring Compression Test

摘要

Isothermal ring compression tests are studied to assess the effects of temperature and deformation rate on the friction factor and calibration curves of Ti-6Al-4V. Using finite element method (FEM) analysis, the calibration curves of Ti-6Al-4V are developed and compared to the calibration curves available in the literature. The results show that the calibration curves of Ti-6Al-4V change with temperature and deformation rate at high friction factors. The experimental results indicate that the friction factor of the glass used as a lubricant increases with increasing temperature. The deformation rate has a significant effect on the friction factor at 850 and 950 degrees C, but its effect is inconsiderable at 900 degrees C. A model is presented for the friction factor value as a function of temperature and platen speed.
