As the recessionary economies of Western Europe continue to sustain demand for cheaper tyres in the region, and the expense of fitting imported products from the Far East increases, it has often been noted that this is a continuing period of opportunity for growth in the sales of retread tyres, especially considering the cost of both natural and synthetic rubber. Having said this, the supply of used tyre casings, which can safely be characterised as the lifeblood of the retreading industry, has often been cited as a reason why growth in this segment may be difficult to achieve.
