Before examining your machine's health, consider both quantitative and qualitative testing methods. Oil analysis provides value that can be characterized as both short- and long-term benefits. For most, oil analysis is oriented toward the short-term focus on oil health (use of analysis to manage lubricant changes). While certainly there is value to be derived from this approach, there is greater value to be found in system analysis. System analysis includes interest in oil and machine health and the presence of lubricant defects (contaminants, wrong lubricant) that are known to promote lubricated component failure.
