Redevelopment of redundant industrial land alongside a south Wales steelworks plus a reduction in local traffic disruption should follow completion of Harbour Way in Port Talbot. Hidden basements, contaminated ground, material reuse, flood alleviation and realignment of railway track all feature in a challenging highway project to build a little under 5km of dual carriageway to the south of Port Talbot. The £60M 'Harbour Way' project aims to help regenerate the town's waterfront by encouraging investment on brownfield land beside a huge steelworks that dominates the local area. The new road will also provide a conduit for local traffic that often contributes to congestion on the nearby M4 and should help to relieve rat running through the town during peak hours.
