摘要

The series of Infectious Disease Clinics of North America are recognised widely as authoritative and concise, and include a wide range of topics from fever of unknown origin, fungal infections, lyme disease to HIV/AIDS.The volume on Infection in High-Risk Populations is a timely compilation of topics that are not available collectively elsewhere. These include infection, immunity and hormones/ endocrine interactions, infections in diabetes mellitus, hypercortisolemia and infection, infections in patients with chronic kidney disease, infections in chronic lung diseases, prevention and management of infections in children with asplenia or hyposplenia, infection in the elderly, infection in patients with severe burns, infections in residents of nursing homes, infections in confined spaces: cruise ships, military barracks and college dormitories, infections associated with long-term prosthetic devices, and pharmokinetic and phar-macodynamic aspects of antibiotic use in high-risk populations. The reference list for each chapter has been selected carefully and includes references to papers published in as recently as 2006 and 2007 and a reference to a paper on pneumaturia published in 1898.
