The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system is well known as a highly polymorphism genetic system. The region plays an important role in the immune response and displays a marked degree of genetic polymorphism. Molecular analysis of the HLA region has enhanced the usefulness of this system for selecting donors for hematopoietic cell transplantation, for investigation of disease associations and for anthropo-logic population studies (1, 2).
