Back in 1903, Albino Souza Cruz, a young Portuguese immigrant, founded Souza Cruz S.A., and rapidly established a successful cigarette production before becoming a subsidiary of British American Tobacco in 1914. Souza Cruz is now the biggest tobacco company in Latin America. In 1918, Souza Cruz, acting inno-vatively, brought to its production chain a series of partnerships that had never been seen before in Brazil.
