摘要

The study was conducted to determine the aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) content in mare milk and the rate of transfer of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) from feed into milk after oral administration. Two lactating mares in early lactation from a riding school were used for a feeding experiment using a daily aflatoxin B1 supplementation of 50 micro g, representing the maximum permitted daily dose on feed dry matter basis. An equilibrium between aflatoxin intake and excretion in milk was observed after the third day of dosing which was ~8 ng AFM1/kg. The mean excretion rates based on an estimated daily milk yield of 3 kg for each mare were 0.04 and 0.05%, respectively. This low excretion rate was 10 times lower than that in dairy cattle, and indicated that when the feed was contaminated with aflatoxin B1 at 5 micro g/kg dry matter, the milk produced by the mares is still safe for consumption..
