Dear Editor,A tunneled cuffed venous catheter (TCC) is used when: vascular access is not feasible; all options are exhausted for the creation of a permanent vascular access; a fistula is not ready at the initiation of dialysis therapy; maturation of the fistula is too slow; or dysfunction of a fistula occurs (1,2). The cuff of the TCC is firmly fixed to the subcutaneous tissue, providing a barrier against infection, and preventing unexpected removal of the TCC. The Soft Cell (Bard Access Systems, Salt Lake City, UT, USA), which is an end-hole type of dual-lumen TCC, is commonly used (Fig. 1A).
