Veterinary career ambitions correlate with gender and past experience, with current experience influencing curricular perspectives

The nature of veterinary students is changing, from 'sons of farmers; to 'daughters of pet owners' largely due to the feminisation of the profession and increasing urban catchments. Concerns regarding the lack of diversity of the student intake relateto farm animal practice, as it is hypothesised that female students and those from urban areas will prefer small animal to farm animal practice.Views of students and recent graduates are sought to evaluate curricula. However, it is hypothesised that a veterinarian's role and ambitions could affect his or her perspective of curricular balance, resulting in potential bias in curricular reviews.
