The venue was great, the weather was warm and sunny (for the most part), and the fireworks were spectacular. But it wasn't all fun and games at Metal Matters 2007 and the TPJ Symposium, which were held concurrently March 14-17 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. It was serious business and covered nearly everything-the state of the economy, fabrication shop management, and various technical aspects of metal fabricating. Here are a few high- lights, in case you missed the conferences. In the opening address, economist Jeff Thredgold, president of Thredgold Economic Associates, predicted that the U.S. economy's current expansion would continue, at a rate of approximately 2.6 percent annually after accounting for inflation. He said that chances of a recession soon are just one in three.
