Settling, obtaining graded materials by.- Apparatus for separating ores from sand &c. comprises a vessel 1 adapted to contain a head of water and communicating at 2 with a vessel 3 having a perforated bottom on which the mineral is placed. Water passing up through the mineral in the vessel 3 carries the light matter to the surface of the charge, from which it can be removed. Valves 5, 8, and a tank 7 to receive the overflow from the vessel 3, are provided.
