Exports of Korea's automotive vehicles continued to be on the rise in October. According to the preliminary figures from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers' Association, the monthly output of domestic cars posted 316,930 units in October, up 11.3 percent from September, but a drop of 2.6 percent from October 2003. Domestic automotive sales stood at 95,258 units in October with a 5.4 percent rise from September, but down 11.1 percent compared with the identical month last year. However, domestic sales were also found to be taking a steady upturn. A slump in domestic economy, surging oil prices and mounting credit default of households were cited as the major reasons for sluggish domestic sales, but automakers' continued debut of new models like Hyundai Motor's new Sonata and Kia Motor's Sport age together with their intensive efforts to get out of a slowdown in domestic sales helped the monthly sales take a turnaround toward increase on a year-on-year basis.
