Labor Strike of Transportation Union Puts Steel Transportation Under Red Alert

As the Pohang branch and other branches in Kyungsangnam-do of the Cargos Solidarity of the National Transportation and Unloading Workers Union (NTUWU) went on an across-the-board strike May 2, claiming wage hikes and a halt to the oppression of labor unions, the transportation of steel products and raw materials is put under emergency alert. It has stopped steelmakers in Pohang and Masan areas from shipping their products and if the situation prolongs, industrial damage to their consumers in the sectors of shipbuilding, automobile and construction is feared to expand. Even though any specific report on damages has come in from Pusan, Dangjin and Chollanam-do areas where a lot of steelmakers are located, the situation shows a sing of spread to those areas.
