Zsuzsanna Jakab was the former Secretary of State in Hungary's Ministry of Health. As the most senior civil servant at the ministry she was responsible for overseeing Hungary's implementation of European Union (EU) policies and laws in her area, administering the spending of EU financial assistance, and managing Hungary's national public-health programme. She worked as a Director in the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO Euro) for 11 years before being invited to jointhe Ministry of Health bythe Hungarian government in 2002. jakab was appointed as the new Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in December 2004, and took up her post on March 1,2005.
