Antibacterial screening of different extracts of some common plants

Different plant parts of Piper belle, Pisum sativum and Catharanthus roseus were collected, shade dried and powdered. Water extract, methonolic extract, free flavonoid and bound flavonoid extracts were prepared and have been screened for their antibacterial activity. Four pathogenic bacteria selected for the study are Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Enterobaaor aerogenes and Staphylococcus aurcus. Well established paper disc method, was used for the puTose. Activity was shown by one or the other extracts but the best results were shown by the bound flavonoid extract of Piper betle.
