In 2004 an FDA White Paper noted an unexpected decline in the number of new biopharmaceuticals reaching patients, a fact echoed globally. This observation was in total contradiction to the exponential growth in drug discovery,fuelled by the ability of scientists to manipulate genetic information to create new structures that imitate nature but yet are remarkably effective in their physiological reaction.
