Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a non-fermentative Gram-negative rod that causes nosocomial infections.1 To date, the epidemiology of S. maltophilia is not well understood and tremendous efforts have been made to elucidate whether infections occurring in hospitals are acquired independently from environmental sources or from cross-transmission between patients.
