摘要

The work presented in this paper was initiated to evaluate the potential for short-term storage at elevated temperatures for the Summer apple cv. 'Sunrise', using 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) to control ripening. Fruit were harvested three times at 1 week intervals, with the first harvest being that which the industry normally considers acceptable for commercial harvest. A treatment concentration of 100 nl l-1 1-MCP was sufficient to provide maximum inhibition of ripening when fruit were held at 15 degrees -22 degrees C. If fruit were harvested at the current, commercially recommended, optimal harvest maturity, quality benefits were consistent from year-to-year. However if fruit were harvested at later maturities there were year-to-year differences in ripening inhibition with 1-MCP treatment. Two sequential weekly treatments with 1-MCP extended the effectiveness of the treatment in maintaining firmness and titratable acidity.
