Re: malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour of the hand: challenges in diagnosis and management of a child.

A 4 year-old child presented with swelling in her left palm following trauma. Clinical examination showed a 3-cm soft, discoloured non-tender mass (Fig 1). MRI scan reported a well-demarcated lobulated subcutaneous mass and reported as either a haematoma or foreign body granuloma. Surgical excision of a friable necrotic haemorrhagic mass was performed and histology revealed a diagnosis of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour (MPNST). The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by partial amputation of her hand to gain complete excision. No local recurrence or metastasis was noted 6 months after surgery.
