New ethics and competency Standards for financial planners

More than 40 delegates from 14 countries met in Sydney recently to discuss the development of international process, ethics, expertise and competency Standards for the service of personal financial planning. In what is seen as a positive development for the multi-billion dollar international financial planning industry the International Organization for Standardization's [ISO] Technical Committee ISO TC 222 Personal Financial Planning is seeking to gain international agreement on a comprehensive range of requirements for financial planning. ISO Vice President, Technical and Chief Executive of Standards Australia, Mr Ross Wraight, said: "With more than 15,000 financial planners in Australia alone it is essential that we have effective International and Australian Standards to continue to raise the benchmark in this rapidly growing industry."
