Graphic designer Frauke Stegmann, 35, inhabits two identities: adventurous cosmopolitan and provincial recluse. Born and raised in Namibia, a sparsely populated desert country north of South Africa that is a former German colony, she currently lives in Cape Town, yet almost exclusively works with northern-hemisphere clients. Stegmann's African heritage and location are deceptive: In mood and sensitivity, scale and form, her work is thoroughly European.
