Lipoarabinomannan (LAM) from M. bovis AN5 capacity on the induction of gamma interferon production in whole blood and peripheral blood mononuclear cell culture system was assessed. It was observed that the maximum production was 24 hours after incubation and less activity of gamma interferon by M. bovis AN5 LAM than other mycobacterial LAM preparation. M. bovis AN5-PPD, crude culture filtrate and sonicated antigens produced more gamma interferon than LAM. In whole blood culture, the production was comparatively higher than PBMC and this may be due to non-specific release of gamma interferon from T-cells.
