DETECTION OF ROTAVIRUS INFECTION IN YOUNG CALVES BY ELISA AND COMPARISON WITH COMPLEMENT FIXATION TEST

A commercially available ELISA Rotavirus (Bio-x, Germany) kit for detection of rota virus infection in calves was evaluated and compared with complement fixation (CF) test, In this study 123 stodl samples of clinical cases of enteritis were tested Theresults indicated 28.4% rotavirus positive cases in Urmia (west Azarbyjan), by both ELISA and CF tests, Out of 123 samples 35 cases (28,4%) were positive by C'FT, while capture ELISA showed 30 rotapositive (24,3%) The procedure gave results which were comparable with those obtained by CFT, There was 86% coincidence between the results of the two methods, 97% sensitivity and 95,6% specificity were obtained for ELISA and can be considered as a possible standard method for detecting rotavirus infection.
