Therapeutic Efficacy of Pour-on Preparations of Eprinomectin and Ivermectin Against Strongylosis in Buffaloes

Strongylosis in buffaloes causes damage to gastrointestinal mucosa leading to decreased absorption of minerals, progressive emaciation and economic losses to buffalo owners. Benzimidazoles and probenzimidazoles are mainly used to control these infections. Macrocyclic lactones hold the promise as an alternative treatment of gastrointestinal nematodes over these anthelmintics. Eprinomectin is a new endectocide of avermectin chemical group. It has also been used for the control of parasitic infections in Turkey (Aveioglu and Balkaya, 2008). To determine comparative anthelmintic activity with ivermectin pour-on, eprinomectin pour-on was tested against naturally occurring strongylosis in buffaloes at R.S. Pura, Jammu.
