Have you ever thought about how your camellias may look in 50 years? I had the opportunity to go with Jim Dickson on December 28 to help identify some of the camellias ai his mother's house in Hephzibah, Georgia, many of which were planted 60 years ago or more. Some of those camellias have been growing there in the old home place since before he was born. Some were planted by his grandmother, Bessie Dickson. When he was 12 years old he became interested in camellias through the guidance of both his uncles and father and began helping plant and care for the camellias. He moved from the home place when he joined the military from which he was discharged in 1973. Jim and and his wife, Carolyn, have lived in North Augusta for about 40 years and they moved Lucile, his mother, to North Augusta, where they could tend to her needs seven years ago, leaving the original home vacant. Fortunately they have a policeman living in a small house behind the main house and he provides security for the property.
