Mashelkar tours MCG at Australian National Dinner

ICHEME'S president Ramesh Mashelkar thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to tour the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground when he hosted IChemE's National Dinner in Australia at the MCG in mid-April. Addressing over 125 IChemE members and guests from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, Mashelkar highlighted the emerging challenges of chemical engineering and innovation - especially what the profession can do to improve the Lives of the world's poorest people, who survive on 2 a day or even less. Howard Bradbury, visiting fellow in the School of Botany and Zoology at the Australian National University, last year won IChemE's first-ever 2-a-day Award for his simple process that can dramatically reduce high levels of cyanide in cassava flour, consumption of which cause the debilitating condition Konzo which cripples thousands in Africa.
