Introducing Foundation Programmes

Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) is the name of a recent reform to postgraduate medical education in the UK. It aims to introduce structured, focused, competency-based (and therefore shorter) training programmes, with a smooth transition from basic to higher specialist training and eventually to the Certificate of Completion of Higher (Specialist) Training (CC(S)T). There is an emphasis on 'generic' skills (communication, teamwork, etc.) as well as on knowledge and technical ability.
