Howqua Dale Gourmet Retreat began in 1977, when Sarah Stegley,a descendant of the station's establishing family, purchased a portion of the property out of sheer love for the land. Years before, Sarah had left school and attended Massey University inNew Zealand to study agricultural science - at that time Duki didn't accept female students. Sarah finished her studies, briefly working on a handful of Australian properties before catching the travel-bug and heading overseas.
