First US shale gas arrives in Europe at Ineos Norway plant

Ineos reached a milestone on Wednesday when the JS Ineos Intrepid, the world’s largest multi-gas carrier, arrived at the company’s complex at Rafnes, Norway, carrying the first ethane export from the United States to Europe. The occasion represented the culmination of a $2-billion investment by the Swiss-based petrochemical company. The ethane will feed Ineos’ 620,000 m.t./year ethylene plant at Rafnes, which is currently based on dwindling supplies of North Sea gas.
