Norway: Europe's pumped-storage system-Necessary modifications of power plants

After the year 2000, Norway will be connected even closer to the European Electric Power System, when three more high-voltage sea cables will be put into operation. The Norwegian Electric Power System has traditionally been designed as an energy production system. The new connections to Europe will mean that power will become more important in the future, as part of the Norwegian power system shall operate as a pumped-storage system with respect to the European thermal-based system.
