The initial work for developing a $10.7-billion Sino-Oman industrial city at Duqm, 550 kilometers south of Oman’s capital Muscat, has begun this week, according to local media reports. The project is led by Oman Wanfang LLC (Muscat), a consortium of six Chinese companies, and will include a 230,000-barrels per day refinery as well as a petrochemical complex. Ali Shah, chairman of Oman Wanfang, says the company is in talks with Oman’s ministry of oil and gas to secure gas supply for some of the petrochemical projects at the park.
