2-Pyrrylaldehydes are shown to react under McMurry conditions to gi ie the expected coupling products in high yield, while 3-pyrrylaldehydes and 3-pyrrylketones give in good yields either rearrangement products or reduced McMurry products, depending upon the nature of the reactant.
