On the path to effective durability road simulation, one ultimately encounters a technological fork in the road: one route veers toward the use of general-purpose technology, while the other heads towards application-specific technology. The general-purpose route employs direct actuator-coupled (hexapod) technology that comprises arrangements of six identical, kinematically dependent actuators at each corner of the vehicle. These deliver motion to all six axes simultaneously. The application-specific route uses linkage-coupled technology -arrangements of kinematically independent actuators, each optimized to deliver inputs to each specific axis.
