China to examine handling of hazardous chemicals

The State Council, China's cabinet, on Friday, issued an emergency notice asking governments at all levels in the country to strengthen the safety management of hazardous chemicals and explosives, and to implement special regulatory measures for highly toxic chemicals such as sodium cyanide as well as inflammable and explosive materials, the official Xinhua press agency says. The move follows the explosions at a warehouse storing hazardous chemicals, at Tianjin, China, on Wednesday night. The cabinet has also urged governments at all levels to crack down on illegal activities to ensure safety.
