PURPOSE: Recalcitrant infections often require microsurgical free tissue transfer to fill soft tissue and osseous defects. Despite the transfer of vascularized tissue, there is still a 30-40% failure rate due to infection (1). Our laboratory has developed a novel technique to transduce microvascular free flaps ex-vivo with therapeutic vectors, in an attempt to accurately target gene therapy while simultaneously limiting systemic toxicity (2)
