ICD Offers Lifelong Learning Opportunities/USW Education Program Wins Malcolm Knowles Award

Ernie Barrientez was out of work in December 1993. The No. 2 coke plant at then-Inland Steel had been shut down and there was no guarantee of when he would be called back to his job. With unexpected time on his hands Barrientez decided to tap into a Steelworker-provided education program, the Institute for Career Development (ICD). Through ICD, Barrientez enrolled in a Culinary Arts program at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana.
