The lack of military requirements for effective UAS simulation and training programmes has meant that many systems have been fielded to operators who are unable to fully utilise their capabilities, discovers Claire Apthorp. When it comes to training UAV operators, the unmanned community does not effectively exploit simulation and training (S&T) technologies and methods. Currently, the process of acquiring UAS is overwhelmingly skewed towards getting the systems into the field as quickly as possible, with little funding available to establish comprehensive training programmes.
