Safety advisory councils play important role

The two Safety and Health Advisory Councils established under the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) have met on a regular basis since their establishment in October last year.The Mining Safety and Health Advisory Council has held five meetings and the Coal Mining Safety and health Advisory Council has met six times to date.These advisory councils were established to make important contributions to the continuous improvement of safety and health standards in the mining industry. To achieve this, people appointed to the councils must be conversant with current industry problems and have the appropriate expertise to provide sound advice on mining safety and health issues.
