Companies are hunkering down and have sharply reduced the amount of travel most employees are doing during this global economic downturn. This is having a huge impact on the travel industry. Since there are fewer travelers flying and staying in hotels, airfares and room rates are falling. Other categories-meetings and events, ground transportation and meals and other ancillary spending- are feeling the effects of the recession as well.
